Ivy Hall Faculty

Director: Mrs. Susan Kirby will direct the school for the 16th year. She teaches English in Junior High and oversees the curriculum for each grade. This ensures each grade building upon the others and avoiding "holes" in the student's education.
Mrs. Kirby graduated from Teachers' College in
Toronto, Canada in 1967. She first taught for the Toronto
School Board, where she was designated a Master Teacher after her first year. She later taught for the Mississauga School Board. She took a break from teaching professionally
while her children were young and returned to
substitute in the greater Toronto area. When her
children were all in school, she taught for 5 years at
Challenger School in Orem. She has been at Ivy Hall
since 1991, and the Director since 1992.
Mrs. Kirby has four children and ten grandchildren. |

| Office Manager: Mrs. Heather Allen is beginning her 3rd year in the office. She always has a smile for everyone and is very organized. Mrs. Allen has one son, Noah (5th), who attends Ivy Hall. |

Pre-K (3- and 4-year-olds): Mrs. Cori Llewelyn lives in Orem with her husband and their four children. She enjoys many outdoor activities such as skiing, boating, hiking, and scuba diving. She is very involved in her children’s activities, often traveling from one event to another (sometimes at the same time). She also enjoys reading, exercising, scrapbooking, and teaching preschool.
Mrs. Llewelyn is very excited to begin her sixth year at Ivy Hall. As the Pre Kindergarten teacher, she’ll strive to better relate to young children by tapping into their creative and imaginative side. Her method of teaching has evolved to using hands-on familiar childhood games and activities that involve the children while challenging and stimulating their minds. Her goal is to individually find things that will excite them into learning, making their preschool experience memorable. |

| Pre-K Aide: Miss Bryn Kindschy will be assisting Mrs. Llewelyn in pre-K this year. She is a first-year student at UVSC and is excited to be working at Ivy Hall. |

Pre-K (4-year-olds): Mrs. Andrea Quinn will teach our second preschool class this year. She was born and raised in Vernal, Utah. She is the youngest of seven children. She met her husband in their BYU ward last January and they were married in November, 2006.
Her hobbies include camping, fishing, hiking, reading a good book, movies, cooking, and music. Her mother owned a preschool while she was growing up, and that's where she discovered her love for teaching preschool age children. She was able to work there for seven years. After she graduated from high school, she had the opportunity to go to Zhuhai, China, and teach English to elementary age children for four months.
This is her second year at Ivy Hall. She's very excited to be teaching pre-kindergarten this year! |

| All-Day Kindergarten: Mrs. Whitney Harken is new to Ivy Hall Academy this year. She is the youngest of seven children. She grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. She's been married to her best friend, Dallas, for nearly 25 years. They have four children. Their two oldest daughters, Ashley and Katlin, are married to great men. Their son, Michael, is a senior and their youngest, Rachel, is a sophomore at Pleasant Grove High. Their family loves camping, going to the Manti Pageant, and bowling with their Wii. |

Kindergarten: Mrs. Christine Sargeant will be teaching kindergarten at Ivy Hall this year. She is a native of Utah, but has lived in Idaho, Alaska, and British Columbia. Her greatest accomplishment has been to be a mother of three and still live to tell the story.
Mrs. Sargeant's professional experience in education has primarily been with Pre-K through third grade, focusing on English as a Second Language and Special Education Preschool. |

| 1st Grade: Mrs. Kathie Hunter begins her 16th year at Ivy Hall. Needless to say she has extensive experience and the patience of a saint. Many students have benefited from having her as a teacher, and nine grandchildren enjoy her as "Grandma". |

1st Grade: Mrs. Bonnie James is moving from the preschool to the first grade this year. This is her eighth year teaching at Ivy Hall. She is a superb teacher with a gentle demeanor.
Born and raised here in Utah Valley, Mrs. James decided at an early age that she wanted to be a teacher. She graduated from BYU with a Bachelors degree in Educational Psychology and a minor in Early Childhood Education. She loves teaching and says her favorite teaching moment is when a student discovers something new. Her favorite pastimes are shopping, traveling to new places, reading and going to the movies. She also loves hiking, yoga, the Boston Red Sox and anything chocolate! Mrs. James lives in Orem with her husband and four children. |

| 2nd Grade: Mrs. Kristen Brady is new at Ivy Hall this year. She grew up on a ranch in Montana with three brothers, and has spent the last two years teaching pottery and craft lessons at a summer camp in the mountains of Utah. She loves the outdoors, backpacking, biking and hiking and has traveled to and backpacked through eleven different countries.
She is a recent graduate from BYU and also a newlywed (November 18, 2006)! While this is her first year as a teacher, she has spent a great deal of time as a substitute in both Utah and Montana, as well as countless hours teaching, playing with, and loving kids! |

3rd Grade: Mrs. Vickie Hamilton was born in Heber, Utah and moved to Orem when she was ten years old. She has four brothers, two older and two younger. She married her high school sweetheart and they have been married for 34 years. They have eight children, four of their own, their spouses and thirteen grandchildren whom they love very much. This is her third year at Ivy Hall.
Mrs. Hamilton recently graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She has taught in the Provo District, Alpine District, and at another private school.
She enjoys being in the outdoors and likes to spend time camping, fishing, hiking and mountain biking. She loves working in her yard and adding new flowers each year, her favorites are roses. She loves reading, sewing and spending time with her family. |

| 4th Grade: Mrs. Charlene Knight begins her seventh year teaching 4th grade.
Before coming to Ivy Hall, she worked in a high school Special Education class. Prior to that, she was a stay-at-home mom and had a pre-school in her home for eighteen years.
She has four children and two grandchildren. She enjoys spoiling her grandchildren, sewing, singing, theatre, reading and good jokes.
Mrs. Knight says: "I feel extremely grateful to be teaching. I am energized daily as I interact with my students. This is a dream come true for me!" |

5th Grade: Mrs. Lynne Shumway was born in England, raised in New Zealand, raised a family in Australia, and is now a genuine American Citizen. Now you try and work out that accent!
Although new to Ivy Hall Academy this year, she is a trained teacher and has worked in the education field for many years, both in classroom and in administration. She is excited to be working with the Fabulous 5th Grade this year.
Mrs. Shumway is an avid fan of the great outdoors, enjoying fly-fishing, camping, and hiking. She also enjoys writing, reading, traveling, and the challenge of new experiences. |

| Middle School: Ms. Michelle Mathews starts her seventh year at Ivy Hall. Previous to teaching here, she taught in the Nebo School District. Before moving to Utah she lived in several U.S. states and in Greece, Italy, Germany and Spain. She has three children. She enjoys reading, running, playing, watching, and coaching sports. She is excited to teach middle school and looks forward to another great year.
She says: "I am grateful to work at Ivy Hall where we can learn while feeling safe and loved. I appreciate the things I learn daily from my co-workers and my students." |

Spanish: Miss Lauren Hill will be teaching Spanish for the second year. She is from Bountiful, Utah and comes from a family of eight. One of her favorite things to do is go camping with her family. She loves the outdoors: hiking, boating, picnics, etc. She is currently studying Spanish education and plans on minoring in international business. She loves working with youth and is excited to teach at Ivy Hall Academy! |
