Mrs. Harken's All-Day Kindergarten

Mrs. Whitney Harken

I love teaching Kindergarten! I have a love of learning. I want to pass that love and passion on to the future leaders of our communities and nation. I believe that positive role models who can reach out to children have a duty to do so. I am always trying to find ways to better myself as a person and a teacher. I believe that every child deserves to be nurtured, groomed, and prepared socially, emotionally, and academically. I have the skills, drive, and the compassion to make these goals possible. I am excited to share this journey with your family.

Winter Wear
Please send coats, gloves, hats, and snow boots when necessary.  We do try to go outside for fresh air and exercise each day.  Be sure to write your child's name on all items as they get mixed up easily.  If your child is missing an item, let me know so I can check in the Lost and Found box in the office.

Reading Book
Please make sure that your child has packed his/her reading book  in their backpack, as we use it daily.

Sight Word Packet and Lightning Reading Sheet
I am not sending home a Sight Word Packet this week.  Please use this extra time to review sight words and work on the new Lightning Reading Sheet.  The Lightning Reading sheet will aid your child in reading quickly and fluently.  Time spent reading the lightning words should be counted as part of your 15 minutes of reading per night.

Learning Plan
The Learning Plan Folder will be sent home each day, Monday - Thursday.  Please check for it.  After your child has completed his/her assignments, replace them in the folder along with any notes that you may have for me.
Each day that your child returns completed homework, he/she will get to pick something from the treasure box.

Any work that is not completed in class will be sent home for completion.

The Leader in Me
We are happy to continue growing through The Leader in Me program.  We feel strongly that the "life-skills" training will benefit everyone.  This week we will be focusing on Habit 4:  Think Win-Win.  Think Win-Win is the belief that everyone can win.  It's not you or me, it's both of us.  It's a belief that there are enough good things for everyone.  It's being able to be happy when good things happen to other
people.

Memorization Kinderoos
Miss Harken's small crew of young kinderoos hated the working that kinderoos do. First Spanish, and art then after they start, a math quiz, science quiz, spelling quiz too! One morning said they, "We'll wander away; leaving Miss Harken alone for the day!" They crept all around and guess what they found? Sixth graders busy at play! Those kinderoos all just stood there in awe. They wanted to be what they thought they all saw. but to their surprise 'stead they found inside, the kids they were learning pre-algebra!
